Sad News from Haiti
January 4, 2012. A three week old boy, Richardson Joseph, passed away early on the morning of January 4. He was born prematurely (only 2.2 lbs) and came into our care when we was 11 days old. We named him “Noel” because he came to us on Christmas Day. We had him hospitalized and thought he was recovering, but then he developed respiratory problems which overcame him. Please keep the Mercy & Sharing staff in Haiti in your prayers as they cope with this loss.
Cholera Ongoing in Haiti
With the onset of the rainy season, cholera has surged and the crisis in Haiti continues. There have been over 5,000 deaths attributed to cholera, 162,000 hospitalizations, and 300,000 cases reported (source: UNICEF). Community groups are being mobilized to raise awareness about the spread of cholera and encourage preventative measures. Mercy & Sharing has instituted rigorous sanitation procedures at its schools and orphanages to prevent cholera. Your donations today enable children to have clean water, soap, hand sanitizer, and nutritious food that is safe to eat.
