Located in the worst and most polluted part of Port
au Prince is a 27 square mile slum, crowded with close to a million people
living in squalor conditions. The reason the area is called Cite Soleil
(French for Sun City) is because it is only a city when the sun shines.
Few of the buildings have roofs made of anything other than plastic and
cardboard, and when it rains, the shacks are flooded with water and run
off from the open sewers.
FWWMS has successfully built and is currently operating a Nutrition Center in Cite Soleil where FWWMS provides the only meals for up to 60 children a day. The Nutrition Center also provides counseling support for these children and their mothers (as most are unmarried or single parents).
