Just 500 miles off the Florida coast the 2nd poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti, shares the island of Hispanola with the Dominican Republic. The tiny island nation of Haiti is home to more than 9 million people with 80% of the population living in poverty and 54% living in abject poverty. All of Mercy & Sharing’s programs are in the country of Haiti.

> Almost ½ of all Haitians never go to school, only 2% complete secondary education
> 2.2% of the population is infected with HIV/AIDS (the highest prevalence outside of Africa)
> Only 46% of Haitians have access to clean drinking water
> 30% of the population is either ill or under weight
> 7% of Haitian children are enslaved
